A UCSD Visit for the Entire Family
Bring your family to play in the Pacific while you tour the UCSD campus with your college-bound kid. Family members often have different interests, making it difficult to plan a trip that entertains everyone. The wide range of activities at the La Jolla Shores Hotel has something special for all ages and interests. With our close proximity to UCSD, it's easy to tour the UCSD campus with all or part of your family, while the others take advantage of being beachside at our hotel.
Tour the UCSD Campus
Make the most of this exciting time for you and your soon-to-be college student by following these tips for touring the UCSD campus.
Book a Tour
While visitors are always welcome to take a
self-guided tour, the campus is huge and there is a lot to take in. We highly recommend booking a tour guide, so you can hear and see what you need to know from the experts.
- UCSD offers tours Monday-Saturday at 10am. The campus tour includes a 30-minute Admissions Information Session with Q&A followed by a 90-minute walking tour led by current UC San Diego students. You can book your tour online here.
- UCSD also offers a sunset hike tour designed to compliment the original tour mentioned above. It runs Monday-Thursday 1 hour before sunset and is a relaxed 2 mile walk along the north end of campus overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There are also views the athletic facility - RIMAC, and Torrey Pines hang glider port. You can book your UCSD sunset tour online here.
Attend a Class
If you visit during the week, take the opportunity to attend a class that interests you. Let the students get seated first and avoid going in if you see a test is being given. Use the search tool at this
link to find a class for you!
Park in Visitor Parking Only
UCSD operates all of their parking lots on a strictly enforced permit system. You will need to purchase a visitor permit and park in designated visitor spaces. Parking is free on Saturday. Read more about the parking details
