History

In 1967, the Kellogg family began work on the La Jolla Shores Hotel, a companion property owned and operated by La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Inc. Opened in 1970, the 128-room hotel is adjacent to Kellogg Park, a seven-acre public beachfront park donated to the city of San Diego in 1951 by Florence Scripps Kellogg.

A pebble’s throw from the Pacific, the La Jolla Shores Hotel is a daily witness to the sights and sounds of the ocean, offering guests front-row views of sand, surf and sunsets from balconies and courtyards that are perpetually bathed and freshened by the salt-air breezes befriending this laid-back enclave by the sea.

Since opening in 1970, the La Jolla Shores Hotel has lured vacationers, business travelers and occasional luminaries.  Originally a property encasing 101 rooms, 27 rooms were added in 1981, expanding the capacity to allow for the constant flow of guests.

The scenery is indeed, one of the La Jolla Shores Hotel's greatest assets. North-, south-, and west-facing guest rooms afford breathtaking and unmatched views of the ocean, coastline and fiery sunsets, enhanced daily by the world-famous weather in San Diego. The adobe-textured exteriors, open-air courtyards, hexagon-shaped red-tile walkways, roofs and balusters constructed of Mexican paver only add to the Old World charm. Sitting in the hacienda style courtyards, surrounded by fountains, lattice work, and Mexican-tiled walkways accented with giant bird of paradise, sago palms, ficus tress, azaleas, and hibiscus, it is easy to see why the La Jolla Shores Hotel remains one of the most popular vacation spots.

Today, the La Jolla Shores Hotel is renowned for its beautiful architecture, stunning location and outstanding service. These aspects will never change. Our guests come again and again - we hope you will too.
